Something practical to build on.
Being out of work or education can feel isolating. Repeated applications and rejection can knock your confidence. Green Futures supports young people aged 15–25 who are at risk of disengaging from education or training, or are not currently working or studying. It offers a supportive place to build confidence, reconnect with learning and make a useful contribution.
Work with a small group, respond to a real employer brief and create something you can be proud to show.

About your programme
What happens on the programme?
You will join a group of 6–8 young people on weekday mornings for 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Friendly facilitators guide practical horticulture and digital workshops. You might create a small growing space or container for a business, then design materials to present and promote your work. Sessions also develop teamwork, presentation skills, interview practice and CV writing.
What makes Urban Trailblazer different?
We listen to your goals, respect your views and help you recognise your strengths. Learning takes place through practical tasks in a supportive environment, with time among plants, flowers and nature. If qualifications, confidence, mental health challenges or a criminal record have made your next step harder, speak to us about the support you need.
Will my learning be recognised?
We offer AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates for completed units in horticulture and digital design. Your learning is evidenced through practical activity and observation, without formal exams. These certificates recognise what you have achieved; they are not regulated qualifications.
Will I work with an employer?
You will work towards an employer brief and receive a reference reflecting your contribution. There may also be a company visit and opportunities to volunteer with one of our partners. We will explain the arrangements for your group before you start.
What could I do afterwards?
The skills you practise can support applications for gardening, customer service, retail, social media or business administration roles. You can also explore apprenticeships, volunteering or further study. Other sectors, including hospitality, construction, health and financial services, may require additional training or qualifications. We will help you identify a realistic next step.
Can you guarantee I will get a job?
No programme can guarantee a job. Our facilitators will help you build confidence, practical experience and evidence of your skills, alongside CV and interview preparation. Your employer brief and reference give you something concrete to discuss in applications and interviews.
Can you help with travel costs?
We can cover some travel costs. Speak directly to your facilitator before travelling so we can explain the support available and agree arrangements.
Do you provide lunch?
We provide some lunches, which participants prepare together as a team. Please tell us about dietary requirements when you enquire.
